Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
